FASHION AND ECOLOGY: DIOR AND SUSTAINABILITY FOR 2020 COLLECTIONS
We’ve barely entered fall and we’re already talking about spring/summer collections? Not exactly. Dior’s fashion show deserves a special regard as it is going in a direction that very few are going in: the one to attempt to bring fashion and eco-sustenaibility together.
Dior started the Paris Fashion Week of 2019 with a fasion show in LongchampRacecourse, Paris, completely gravitating towards ecology, starting with the set design: 164 trees, in a completely recyclable environment, were the background of the show. An idea born from a collaboration between Maria Grazia Chiuri and Atelier Coloco, a Paris group who didn’t only think about the set, but also about the trees. After the show, as a matter of fact, they’ll be part of a project to enlarge the forest areas around Paris.
A fashion show which, thanks to its theme, had a great echo, also thanks to the presence of stars like Bianca Jagger, Jennifer Lawrence and Julienne Moore. The theme of ecology and Nature of Dior’s fashion show for the spring/summer collection of 2020 isn’t just a facade, but it is at the center of the entire collection’s development.
An exploration of nature starts from the Miss Dior dress, a classic, now covered in flowers that recall the Christian Dior Museum in Granville, Normandy. Like we said, nature was at the center of the collection, both ideally and practically.
Prints and embroideries recall the shapes and colours of flowers on the soft and flowy dresses that look light and almost ethereal. This already recalls nature’s trinity: vegetation, water and air.
Of course, this was put into the class and elegance which caracterizes Dior’s dresses: elegant coats that aren’t too excessive, satin details, accessories and footwear, but at the same time dresses and styles that are not only classical, but also modern as shorts or jumpsuits. Because, in the end, Nature isn’t only conservation but also evolution.
